Supply Chain Management Concepts

Updated: Jul 7

In Today’s era, efficient supply chain is one of the most necessary facets of the business. Especially, with the evolution of business, a robust supply chain is very important for sustenance of the business. Some of the largest eCommerce businesses do not have inventories of their own. It is here that a very strong supply chain is needed.

A supply chain consists of the complete process of the transformation of raw material to the

manufacture of end product to end customer. The key members involved in supply chain management are: raw material and sub-assembly suppliers, product/service provider, distributor, warehousing and retailer, and concludes with end-use customer.

The suppliers such as raw material and its component suppliers are called as upstream supply chain members and distributors, warehouse, retailers and end-use customers are called as downstream supply chain members.
